How to Prepare for Dental Implants in Belarus: Which X-Rays and Documents Are Needed
Dental implant treatment in Belarus for international patients begins before the visit to the clinic. Proper preparation helps make the process clearer: the more information a patient can send in advance, the easier it is to review the case preliminarily, plan the trip, coordinate appointments and understand which treatment stages may be needed.
For an international patient, it is especially important to know which X-rays are needed for dental implants, whether a CBCT scan is required, which medical records should be sent, whether a preliminary treatment pathway can be discussed before arrival, and when it is better to book travel to Minsk.
Medical Initiative helps international patients prepare for dental implant treatment in Belarus: we receive the request, explain which documents are useful, arrange preliminary review of X-rays, coordinate consultations, advise on the expected length of stay, accommodation, routes and other organizational matters.
Important: Preliminary review of X-rays and documents helps plan the trip but does not replace an in-person consultation. The final decision on implant placement, scope of treatment, contraindications, timeline and cost is made by the dentist after examination and necessary diagnostics.

Why Preparation Before Dental Implants Is Important
Dental implant treatment includes both surgical and prosthetic stages and requires careful planning. The dentist needs to evaluate not only the missing tooth, but also bone tissue, gums, adjacent teeth, bite and the patient’s general health.
Preparation is especially important when the patient is travelling from another country. It helps understand in advance:
- how many teeth need to be restored;
- whether tooth extraction may be necessary;
- whether there is enough bone tissue for implant placement;
- whether inflammation must be treated first;
- whether several procedures can be combined during one trip;
- whether a follow-up visit may be needed;
- how many days in Minsk should be planned;
- what expenses may arise at different stages of treatment.
When patients send X-rays and documents in advance, it becomes easier to prepare a clearer treatment pathway before arrival in Belarus.
Which X-Rays Are Needed for Dental Implants
Different diagnostic images may be useful for preliminary implant planning. A patient does not always need to have all of them, but more accurate diagnostics allows for a more detailed discussion of possible treatment stages.
Panoramic Dental X-Ray
A panoramic dental X-ray, also known as an OPG, shows the general condition of the teeth, jaws and surrounding tissues.
It helps preliminarily assess:
- which teeth are missing;
- the condition of remaining teeth;
- the presence of damaged teeth or roots;
- possible inflammatory areas;
- previously placed crowns, bridges or implants;
- the general condition of the dentoalveolar system.
A panoramic X-ray is useful for initial review, but more precise 3D diagnostics are often needed for full implant planning.
What CBCT Is and Why It May Be Needed Before Dental Implants
CBCT stands for cone beam computed tomography. It is a 3D scan that allows the dentist to assess the volume, height, width and quality of bone tissue in the future implant area.
CBCT is especially important when planning:
- placement of one or more implants;
- implant placement in an area where a tooth has been missing for a long time;
- restoration of several missing teeth in a row;
- All-on-4 or All-on-6;
- implant-supported prosthetics;
- tooth extraction followed by implant treatment;
- complex oral surgery;
- assessment of previously placed implants.
CBCT helps the dentist see anatomical details and evaluate whether implant placement is possible and safe in a specific area.
If you already have a CBCT scan, it is advisable to send it in advance. If you do not have one, the coordinator will advise whether it should be completed before travelling or can be performed in Minsk.
Periapical Dental X-Rays
A periapical X-ray shows one tooth or a small area in detail. It may be useful for evaluating:
- the root of a specific tooth;
- quality of previous root canal treatment;
- inflammation around the root tip;
- the condition of an old filling or crown;
- a tooth that may need to be removed before implant placement.
Periapical X-rays do not replace CBCT for implant planning, but they may provide useful additional information.
Which Medical Records Should Be Sent in Advance
In addition to X-rays, medical records and information about previous treatment may be useful for preliminary assessment.
It is advisable to send:
- dentist’s reports;
- medical records from previous dental treatment;
- information about extracted teeth;
- details of previously placed implants;
- information about crowns, bridges, removable or fixed dentures;
- previous CBCT or X-ray results;
- photographs of teeth, smile or the affected area;
- list of chronic medical conditions;
- list of regularly used medications;
- information about medication allergies;
- information about diabetes, heart disease, blood clotting disorders or other significant health conditions, if applicable.
These details help the dentist and coordinator better understand the situation and inform the patient in advance if additional consultations or examinations may be needed before implant treatment.
What to Write in Your First Request
To start preparation more efficiently, include the key information in your first message.
Please write:
- your full name;
- country of residence and citizenship;
- preferred method of communication;
- what concerns you;
- how many teeth are missing or may need extraction;
- whether you are interested in one implant, several implants, All-on-4 / All-on-6 or implant-supported prosthetics;
- whether you have existing implants, crowns, bridges or dentures;
- whether you have pain, inflammation or loose teeth;
- approximate travel dates to Minsk;
- whether you already have a panoramic X-ray, CBCT scan or other documents.
You do not need to diagnose yourself. Describe the situation in simple words, and the coordinator will advise the next steps.
Can You Contact Us Without X-Rays?
Yes. If you do not have a panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan, you can still contact us.
In this case, you can:
- describe your situation in the request;
- send photographs of the affected area, if possible;
- indicate which teeth are missing or causing concern;
- describe previous dental treatment;
- provide approximate travel dates.
After the initial request, the coordinator will advise which examinations may be useful. In some cases, X-rays can be taken in Minsk before the dentist’s consultation.
However, if you are planning complex implant treatment, All-on-4 / All-on-6 or implant-supported prosthetics, having a CBCT scan before arrival may make preliminary planning more accurate.
How Preliminary Document Review Works
After the patient sends a request, X-rays and documents, the information is forwarded for preliminary review.
At this stage, it may be possible to understand:
- which specialists may be needed;
- whether the available X-rays are sufficient;
- whether additional diagnostics may be required;
- whether implant treatment may be considered;
- whether tooth extraction may be needed;
- whether preliminary treatment is necessary;
- how many stages the programme may include;
- how many days in Minsk should be planned;
- whether one visit may be enough or a follow-up trip may be needed.
Preliminary review helps the patient prepare for the trip, but the final treatment plan is created only after an in-person examination and diagnostics.
When to Book Flights and Accommodation
International patients are advised not to book flights and accommodation before preliminary coordination of consultation and treatment dates.
Recommended order:
- Contact the Medical Tourism Service.
- Send available X-rays and medical documents.
- Receive preliminary information about the treatment pathway.
- Discuss possible consultation and procedure dates.
- Agree on the approximate number of days needed in Minsk.
- After that, book flights and accommodation.
This approach reduces the risk of planning a trip that is too short or choosing dates when the necessary specialist is not available.
