Childbirth in Minsk for Foreign Citizens: Medical Programme “Happiness Is Born Here”

Russian version

Роды в Минске для иностранных гражданHow Medical Initiative Helps Organize Childbirth in Belarus

Medical tourism in Belarus is not only about diagnostics, dentistry, surgery or check-up programmes. More and more international patients consider Minsk as a city where they can receive qualified medical care during pregnancy, childbirth and early postpartum recovery.

One of the areas that attracts the interest of future parents is childbirth in Minsk for foreign citizens. For many families, this is not just a medical service, but an important life event where safety, a calm atmosphere, comfortable conditions, attentive medical staff and clear organization of the whole process are especially valuable.

On the website of Medical Initiative, we publish information about the medical programme “Happiness Is Born Here”, which is carried out at Minsk City Clinical Maternity Hospital No. 2.

Medical Initiative does not provide childbirth services independently and is not a maternity hospital. We act as a medical tourism coordinator: we help foreign citizens navigate available medical programmes, understand the application process, prepare questions, contact the relevant medical institution and organize the medical part of their trip to Minsk.

Minsk is chosen for several reasons.

Firstly, Belarus is geographically convenient for many foreign citizens. Patients can come to the country for a planned medical programme, agree on a consultation in advance, discuss the conditions of stay and prepare the required documents.

Secondly, the Belarusian obstetric care system combines medical discipline with attentive patient care. For future parents, it is important to have qualified specialists nearby, modern medical equipment and the possibility of receiving timely medical assistance.

Thirdly, Minsk is a calm, green and comfortable city. For a family coming for childbirth from another country, not only the medical part matters, but also everyday comfort: where to stay, how to get to the institution, who can help with organizational issues and whether it is possible to come with a partner or relative.

The “Happiness Is Born Here” programme is of interest to international patients precisely because it combines medical care, a comfortable environment and a family-oriented approach to childbirth.

What Makes the Childbirth Programme in Minsk Special

The “Happiness Is Born Here” programme is designed for future parents who value not only medical standards, but also emotional comfort.

The maternity department offers a wide choice of individual delivery rooms with a comfortable area for the partner. Each individual delivery room includes a pre-delivery area and a separate bathroom.

The delivery rooms are equipped with the necessary medical equipment, which allows specialists to:

  • monitor the condition of the woman in labour;
  • monitor the condition of the fetus;
  • provide anaesthetic support if necessary;
  • provide timely care to the newborn;
  • ensure medical support throughout all stages of labour.

The programme supports active behaviour during labour. Depending on medical indications and the situation, the following may be used:

  • fitball;
  • warm water procedures;
  • breathing relaxation;
  • massage;
  • positional relaxation;
  • minimal use of medication, when possible and medically appropriate.

Regional methods of pain relief are also used, including spinal and epidural anaesthesia, if indicated and agreed upon by the doctors.

Partner Childbirth in Minsk

A separate focus of the programme is the possibility of partner childbirth.

Partner childbirth is especially important for families who want to go through this stage together. The presence of a close person can help the woman feel calmer, more confident and emotionally supported.

An individual delivery room includes a comfortable area for the partner. The possibility of partner childbirth, admission conditions for the partner and required documents should be clarified in advance when applying and during the consultation.

According to the programme information, in order to conclude an agreement for individual childbirth management and partner childbirth, it is necessary to book a consultation with the paid services coordinator from the 32nd week of pregnancy.

What Happens Immediately After the Baby Is Born

If there are no medical contraindications, modern and gentle approaches are used after the baby is born:

  • the baby is placed on the mother’s abdomen;
  • skin-to-skin contact is carried out;
  • delayed cord clamping is performed after pulsation stops;
  • the newborn is first put to the breast.

All stages of labour take place in an individual delivery room, as well as the first 2 hours of joint stay of the mother and baby after birth. During this time, the mother’s condition is monitored, assistance is provided with the first breastfeeding, and the first breastfeeding skills are formed.
